A Day Full of Little Moments and Big Connections
By Linda Gillick
During a recent visit, we were blessed to see God’s love at work in so many small but meaningful ways.
We found Astari and brought her to Bible study, sharing not just time together, but also the gift of a Bible she could call her own. Pastor Frank and I spoke about the growing need for more Bibles to pass out—what a wonderful need to have!
Later, I dropped off a Milky Way candy bar for Jim — a simple gesture, but sometimes it’s the little things that bring the biggest smiles.
I also shared about Dwain with Randy, who seems to be around the same age. Randy, like Dwain, has faced hard challenges, including the loss of a leg. But what a transformation happens when someone falls in love with the Lord! Randy is now always ready to share God’s word and offer praise. I couldn’t help but wonder if the two might encourage each other even more if they met.
In Room 314, I helped Doris find her purse, and just a few doors down, in Room 311, I spent some time consoling Mary. She was heartbroken after missing a trip to the movies and sat in tears. Sometimes just being there to listen can bring comfort in ways words can’t.
Over in the activity area, I met two new ladies — one who had already attended Bible study and another who said she would consider coming next week. It’s always exciting to see new faces interested in learning more about God’s love.
As I was leaving, I met a beautiful woman named Florence, sitting by the nurses’ desk in her wheelchair. Though we had never met, her face lit up the moment she saw me, greeting me with a bright smile and a warm “Hi!” It felt as though she had been waiting for someone to simply see her. I asked if she would like a hug, and her joy was unmistakable. She wrapped her arms around my neck, and when I asked if I could give her a kiss on her forehead, she eagerly nodded. As I kissed her head, she took my hand and kissed it in return. It was one of the sweetest moments of the day — a reminder that love and connection can be shared without needing many words. I promised Florence I would be back next week to visit her again.
Each encounter was a small reminder that even the simplest acts — a Bible, a candy bar, a hug — can bring light into someone’s life.
