Little Trees Project

Bringing Christmas to Edna

By Linda Gillick

Edna has the sweetest spirit. She was in her wheelchair waiting at the door of her little room when we came around the corner of the hallway and headed her way. That day, our group consisted of four adults and three children: myself, Nick (my son), Christina (my daughter-in-law), Alaina (my daughter), and Alaina’s three children, Ethan, Diego, and Arielle. Edna was so excited and wanted to know why we were bringing her a Christmas tree. I told her God had sent us because He loves her so much. She then asked if we were blood relatives. As I started to tell her no, it came into my heart that, yes, we were. I told her that we are all adopted into the family of God, so, yes, we are blood relatives. She pulled me close and told me I had no idea what this meant to her. All I could say was she had no idea what this meant to all of us. While decorating the tree and talking with her, she told us she was almost 100 years old. We all just had to know when her 100th birthday was happening. December 26th. I knew then that I would be back soon to bring birthday cheer to her. Edna also told me of one time when she was in church and looked down to see a little angel sitting beside her… I can’t wait to hear the rest of that story! (To be continued…)
